Sous le sol d\u2019un march\u00e9 de Nairobi, une ressource pr\u00e9cieuse \u00e9tait gaspill\u00e9e. Chaque jour, des tonnes de d\u00e9chets organiques \u2014 \u00e9pluchures de l\u00e9gumes et de fruits \u2014 \u00e9taient jet\u00e9es. Christine Ager a choisi d\u2019y voir une opportunit\u00e9. Sa solution : le lombricompostage, qui utilise des vers de terre pour transformer ces d\u00e9chets en engrais organique riche, tout en construisant un \u00e9cosyst\u00e8me agribusiness autour de cette id\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un an apr\u00e8s avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9e 2e dauphine dans la cat\u00e9gorie Championne de l\u2019autonomisation des femmes au WAYA 2024, cette id\u00e9e s\u2019\u00e9tait transform\u00e9e en un projet bien plus vaste qu\u2019une simple production d\u2019engrais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019initiative Vermi-Farm est pass\u00e9e de 1 200 agriculteurs \u00e0 plus de 6 700 petits exploitants dans 12 nouveaux comt\u00e9s \u2014 dont 87 % de femmes et 68 % de jeunes de moins de 35 ans. L\u2019\u00e9quipe est pass\u00e9e de 7 \u00e0 15 employ\u00e9s, majoritairement des jeunes et des femmes. Plus de 250 emplois suppl\u00e9mentaires ont \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9s gr\u00e2ce aux unit\u00e9s de serres intelligentes DigiShamba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le financement du WAYA a permis d\u2019\u00e9largir la production, de lancer un engrais liquide (Vermiliquid), d\u2019am\u00e9liorer les formations et de renforcer les syst\u00e8mes de compostage. Cela a attir\u00e9 des financements suppl\u00e9mentaires et permis de multiplier les revenus mensuels par 3,4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le mod\u00e8le Vermi-Farm se distingue par son approche globale. Le programme Adapt Finance a permis \u00e0 plus de 4 200 femmes de co-investir dans des serres et d\u2019acc\u00e9der \u00e0 des financements adapt\u00e9s. Avec un apport initial d\u2019environ 210 USD, les agricultrices peuvent acc\u00e9der \u00e0 une agriculture de pr\u00e9cision. Les r\u00e9sultats sont significatifs : les revenus hebdomadaires sont pass\u00e9s d\u2019environ 200 KES \u00e0 plus de 17 000 KES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La technologie est au c\u0153ur du mod\u00e8le : capteurs IoT, chatbot bas\u00e9 sur l\u2019IA, paiements via blockchain et modules de formation accessibles sur t\u00e9l\u00e9phone basique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur le plan environnemental, les r\u00e9sultats sont \u00e9galement notables : r\u00e9duction de 78 % de la consommation d\u2019eau, augmentation des rendements, diminution de l\u2019utilisation d\u2019engrais chimiques et d\u00e9veloppement de jardins scolaires pour sensibiliser les jeunes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
