Le nom en dit long. Pelere, en langue acholi du nord de l\u2019Ouganda, signifie transformer, valoriser. C\u2019est un nom appropri\u00e9 pour une entreprise qui prend l\u2019une des ressources agricoles les plus anciennes de la r\u00e9gion \u2014 le karit\u00e9 Nilotica \u2014 et la transforme du champ au produit fini, des exploitations rurales aux \u00e9tag\u00e8res urbaines. Sandra Letio n\u2019a pas seulement construit une entreprise autour de cette transformation. Elle a construit toute une cha\u00eene de valeur, puis s\u2019est attach\u00e9e \u00e0 prouver qu\u2019une femme de Gulu pouvait la porter jusqu\u2019au march\u00e9 mondial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque Sandra a \u00e9t\u00e9 nomm\u00e9e 1\u00e8re dauphine dans la cat\u00e9gorie R\u00e9silience et Inspiration du WAYA, Pelere Group op\u00e9rait d\u00e9j\u00e0 sur deux sites ruraux \u2014 Matugga dans le district de Wakiso et Layibi \u00e0 Gulu \u2014 avec une \u00e9quipe de 150 personnes, majoritairement des femmes et des jeunes. Le prix n\u2019a pas cr\u00e9\u00e9 cet \u00e9lan. Il l\u2019a amplifi\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le premier impact concret a \u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019utilisation strat\u00e9gique des fonds. 2 500 USD ont \u00e9t\u00e9 investis dans des machines pour l\u2019usine de Matugga. 5 500 USD ont compl\u00e9t\u00e9 l\u2019achat d\u2019un v\u00e9hicule de distribution \u2014 un investissement cl\u00e9 pour surmonter l\u2019un des principaux d\u00e9fis de l\u2019agribusiness en Ouganda : acheminer les produits vers les march\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re fiable et rentable. Un nouvel entrep\u00f4t \u00e9tait \u00e9galement en cours de construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais l\u2019\u00e9volution la plus marquante a \u00e9t\u00e9 la conception d\u2019une machine sur mesure pour le traitement du karit\u00e9 Nilotica et d\u2019autres ol\u00e9agineux. Une fois install\u00e9e, cette machine a permis de faire passer la capacit\u00e9 de production de 10 tonnes par mois \u00e0 10 tonnes par jour \u2014 un changement structurel majeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un an plus tard, les \u00e9quipements \u00e9taient install\u00e9s et l\u2019entreprise se concentrait sur l\u2019exportation. Le chiffre d\u2019affaires a augment\u00e9 de 15 %, soutenu par une meilleure efficacit\u00e9 logistique et commerciale. Sandra a renforc\u00e9 ses comp\u00e9tences en commerce international, notamment en mati\u00e8re de conformit\u00e9 douani\u00e8re et de normes, et a positionn\u00e9 Pelere sur les march\u00e9s r\u00e9gionaux et internationaux, notamment via une pr\u00e9sence sur Alibaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u2019impact communautaire est rest\u00e9 central. Les op\u00e9rations ont cr\u00e9\u00e9 30 emplois directs suppl\u00e9mentaires et 180 opportunit\u00e9s d\u2019emploi au total. Environ 2 000 petits producteurs sont int\u00e9gr\u00e9s dans la cha\u00eene de valeur, et 1 500 femmes et jeunes ont b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 de programmes de mentorat en gestion, planification et exportation. Le mod\u00e8le de Pelere permet \u00e9galement \u00e0 ces femmes et jeunes de devenir distributeurs ind\u00e9pendants, int\u00e9grant l\u2019autonomisation directement dans le mod\u00e8le \u00e9conomique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le profil de Sandra a \u00e9volu\u00e9 en parall\u00e8le de la trajectoire ascendante de l\u2019entreprise. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 invit\u00e9e \u00e0 la Conf\u00e9rence minist\u00e9rielle mondiale en Afrique du Sud en tant que leader reconnue de l\u2019agribusiness. Elle est intervenue lors de forums sur le commerce et l\u2019entrepreneuriat f\u00e9minin. Elle a encadr\u00e9 de jeunes femmes entrepreneures confront\u00e9es aux m\u00eames obstacles qu\u2019elle avait elle-m\u00eame rencontr\u00e9s. Et, gr\u00e2ce au programme des PME dirig\u00e9es par des femmes de la FAO-IAFN, elle a travaill\u00e9 avec une mentor pour repenser le mod\u00e8le de Pelere, renforcer ses syst\u00e8mes et r\u00e9fl\u00e9chir de mani\u00e8re plus strat\u00e9gique \u00e0 ce que l\u2019expansion impliquait r\u00e9ellement.\n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
